[Eric Brown writes]
Has anybody thought about modifying the icon compilier to generate
instructions for the Java VM?
Is Java an open system with a VM that is documented? I and several other
Icon folks have played with Java or read about it with interest, but Sun
seems to be fairly proprietary about Java, so only Sun could undertake
(or sponsor) the kind of project you suggest.
For the record, without the ability to modify/enhance the Java VM, it might
be just as difficult to translate Icon to Java's VM as it is to translate
Icon into C. Icon's VM specifically supports generators and backtracking
in ways that would be awkward to emulate in another VM.
